Last year, I posted my favourite song of 2008 which was "Burden" by Opeth. This year, I have discovered a few more music than in 2008 and bought a couple of interesting albums. Most of my 2009 faves are from this year. Those which are not are albums or songs I discovered only just in 2009. Here is my list in no special order.
- Heart Of Cygnus: "Over Mountain, Under Hill", year: 2009
Lots of great vocal and guitar melodies. Song example and one of my faves on the album: "The Mountain King". - Ship of Fools: "Let's Get This Mother Outta Here", year: 2002
This is a varied and interesting instrumental space rock album corresponding to the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing in 2009 as well as to the International Year of Astronomy in 2009. I love the whole album. Song example and one of my faves on the album: "From Time" on myspace. - Sylvan: "Vapour Trail" (song), year 2009
Have I mentioned that I love long songs? This one is about 15 minutes long. The German magazine eclipsed unveiled this beautiful song on their magazine sampler "The Art Of Sysyphus Vol. 50". The samplers always offer a couple of song which I like much, but this one is my favourite of the samplers published in the 2nd half of 2009. Beautiful vocal melodies, beautiful "gilmourish" guitars and looooong. What more could one want? Here is a shortened version of the song on youtube: "Vapour Trail". - Qidam: "Alone Together", year 2007
A real jewel. See my blog entry on this album here. Song example and one of my faves on the album: Unfortunately, you tube has only a live version of "Of Illusions". The album version is of much better quality, of course. - Porcupine Tree: "The Incident", year 2009
Of course, I must mention Porcupine Tree since it is my favourite band along with Opeth. "The Incident" is a solid PT album, especially the 1st CD. I don't find any access to the 2nd CD though. Song examples and two of my faves on the album: "Time Flies" (shortened version, original version is 11 minutes long) & "Kneel and Disconnect" (I loooove harmony vocals!)
The two last songs are also quite appropriate for the turn of the year lyrically!
I am looking forward to listening to more great music in 2010 ... Bye, bye 2009!
But after a while, you realize time flies ...
