Favourite music of 2009 - time flies ...

SORRY, ENGLISH ONLY
Last year, I posted my favourite song of 2008 which was "Burden" by Opeth. This year, I have discovered a few more music than in 2008 and bought a couple of interesting albums. Most of my 2009 faves are from this year. Those which are not are albums or songs I discovered only just in 2009. Here is my list in no special order.

  • Heart Of Cygnus: "Over Mountain, Under Hill", year: 2009
Lots of great vocal and guitar melodies. Song example and one of my faves on the album: "The Mountain King".
  • Ship of Fools: "Let's Get This Mother Outta Here", year: 2002
This is a varied and interesting instrumental space rock album corresponding to the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing in 2009 as well as to the International Year of Astronomy in 2009. I love the whole album. Song example and one of my faves on the album: "From Time" on myspace.
  • Sylvan: "Vapour Trail" (song), year 2009
Have I mentioned that I love long songs? This one is about 15 minutes long. The German magazine eclipsed unveiled this beautiful song on their magazine sampler "The Art Of Sysyphus Vol. 50". The samplers always offer a couple of song which I like much, but this one is my favourite of the samplers published in the 2nd half of 2009. Beautiful vocal melodies, beautiful "gilmourish" guitars and looooong. What more could one want? Here is a shortened version of the song on youtube: "Vapour Trail".
  • Qidam: "Alone Together", year 2007
A real jewel. See my blog entry on this album here. Song example and one of my faves on the album: Unfortunately, you tube has only a live version of "Of Illusions". The album version is of much better quality, of course.
  • Porcupine Tree: "The Incident", year 2009
Of course, I must mention Porcupine Tree since it is my favourite band along with Opeth. "The Incident" is a solid PT album, especially the 1st CD. I don't find any access to the 2nd CD though. Song examples and two of my faves on the album: "Time Flies" (shortened version, original version is 11 minutes long) & "Kneel and Disconnect" (I loooove harmony vocals!)

The two last songs are also quite appropriate for the turn of the year lyrically!

I am looking forward to listening to more great music in 2010 ... Bye, bye 2009!

But after a while, you realize time flies ...

Bestickter Sack * Embroidered knapsack

***

The knapsack is embroidered. Only the leather straps and the inner lining have to be sewn on now. I will make these two things together with my mother in the New Year. After that, I will post a picture of the finished "Sack".

Knapsack spannen * Blocking Knapsack

This is how huge the knapsack turned out! It seems like someone knitted a little bit too loosely. Thus, the wool probably was a little bit scarce (="knapp" in German) but the KNAPsack is not "knapp" at all. I will have to embroider the "Sack" after blocking. Additionally, I will have to put the finishing touches on it. By the way, the bottle is a 1-liter-bottle (ca. 34 fl oz).

"Greta Garbo Passepartout"

In November, I made this passepartout for a dear friend to show her, what lace knitting with thin yarn is like. It seems like it has arrived at its destination after a couple of weeks so I can show it here now. I hope it is still in good condition and was not folded too much ... The pattern can be found in the book "Haapsalu Sall/Shawl". Yarn: Remnants of Centolavaggi colour no. 362, beads: 8/0 Rocailles 554 Permanent Finish

"Turn Loose The Peacocks"

"Turn Loose The Peacocks"

"Turn Loose The Peacocks"
Measurements: ca. 1.1" wide (at widest point) and 2.5" long (with hook).
A long-standing friend asked for a "peacocky" colour combination. I hope, she likes them. She will surely understand why I chose this name (memories of our youth) ...

Widerstand ist zwecklos * Resistance is futile

. . . bald . . .
. . . 2010 (?) . . .

The knitting virus is expanding more and more within my body. Resistance is futile. After cables and lace, colour knitting/stranded knitting is next in line. For the first real true 2-colour-project, the rucksack has turned out quite satisfying so far. I love the Norwegian "Dale Heilo" yarn (Dale Of Norway). Norwegian sweater, I am coming . . .
. . . soon . . .
. . . 2010 (?) . . .
